Read the details and ensure that the inside 3.5” dimension will work for you. I made the mistake of not checking that closely and ordered these only to find that they won’t fit my 4” vinyl post sleeves. My mistake, and now I can’t return them.That said, I have read some comments about these post brackets arriving with poor finish and residue on them. Despite not being able to use them, I thought I’d share my observations here since I received good quality brackets with a seemingly great finish. They’re just 3.5” inside, and my posts are 4”. (See pictures)Aside from that, these post brackets look great to me. I just wish I could use them.

Useful for wall mounting posts or handrail end newells. May rust with outdoor exposure.

Using these on a deck railing. Strap fits around a 4x4 dimensional post perfectly. It's a bit thinner (2mm) than I would prefer but will do the job. If this strap were 3 or even 4mm it would be a seriously strong strap. In my case I'm tying the 4x4 into a 2x8 below the deck. This strap will hold the bottom of the post square to the deck but another 1/2 bolt will go through the 4x4 about 5in above the strap to ensure a secure post to joists connection. These straps are easy to scratch so not sure this is true powder coating. Otherwise this is a fair strap that will do the job I intend.

Works well for mounting electrical boxes to 4x4 posts also. Good quality.

I ordered these to help reinforce a fence that was supporting more weight than designed. These kept the fence panels from separating and provided lot of extra strength. Since I had some leftover, I then built a tomato garden box and used these to support the uprights that had twine hanging from the top to support the tomato plants. Again, held sturdy and fit the 4 x 4 is perfectly. Very happy with these and would absolutely order again!

These brackets are so thin they are not usable. You can just break them by twisting them once or twice. Absolute garbage.
