REALLY glad I read the Amazon reviews on this product! Informative, detailed, and led me to a good choice for my needs.I bought two of these -- one to replace the sheath on a 1970s Bowie knife that I inherited from my father -- and one as a replacement for the sheath that came with a Ka-Bar knife (leather-washer handle, 7" blade) I bought a few years ago.Other reviewers wrote that the leather and workmanship of these sheaths were exceptional, especially considering the price -- I found this to be absolutely true. This is a good product, tightly stitched, cleanly cut, and made from thick, pliable, attractive leather. I also like (very much) the inclusion of a third layer of leather to protect the stitching from the sharpened edges of my knives.Placed directly on top of the original sheath for that Ka-bar, all dimensions are exactly the same -- right down to the location and length of the handle-strap and the material, size, and appearance of that snap. So the Ka-bar knife fits its new sheath PERFECTLY. The overall effect is clean, attractive, and "businesslike" (as opposed to "busy").And, because the blade profile of my dad's old Bowie is similar to the Ka-bar, that blade fit the second sheath perfectly as well.GREAT purchase; THANKS, reviewers!

Got this for an Old Hickory 7-inch butcher knife and it’s a great fit. Leather is thick and robust. Seems well made. Satisfied.

I have a classic full-sized Kabar from, I think, the 1980's I got at the swap meet. The original leather sheath it came with came damaged and I replaced it years ago with a Kydex sheath that was bulky and never seemed appropriate, didn't do it justice. I wanted a quality leather sheath and this one from the original manufacturer in the classic style seemed like the best idea. I chose the plain one because it looks nice and clean. The sheath I received looks quite close in color to the one in the picture. I oiled it with Obenauf's LP but it did not soak up much of it. The snap was really tight at first but after oiling it and leaving it closed around the handle it loosened up just enough to easily close and is perfectly snug. My Kabar fit into the sheath perfectly, slightly tight at first but is now formed around it. I have had the sheath for only a couple days now.The craftsmanship and quality seems good, including the stitching and hardware. I'm going to continue oiling it to loosen it up so it is less stiff, but not a requirement for everyone just a personal preference. Highly recommended so far.

I am impressed with the workmanship (for the price). Simple, neatly stitched and riveted, good metal snap, drainage hole in the bottom (or for a dangling string or thigh retention thong?). Only problem I have with it is that the leather really seems to be too fine and soft for a knife sheath. Maybe I shouldn't have oiled it after I got it, but I've never had problem before. All I know is that after using it for a few days the whole flat place above the opening of the sheath is deeply gashed and slashed by my knife tip. The slightest contact will slice deeply into the leather, and some seem to have gone almost all the way through. This makes me wonder how long it will even be in one piece (although realistically I think it'd take a long time to serious structurally compromise it). I quickly learned to be more careful replacing the blade, and got some practice in holding in the right way and inserting it. But even so, when I'm out in the brush and have to take it out and replace it repeatedly with one hand, more deep slices keep appearing. So maybe I'm right to worry! I'm no leather expert, but I am sure I've handled leather objects made from harder, more resistant leather than this before. Supple isn't really a necessary thing for a working knife sheath, toughness is. For the price I can't complain to much, but if you plan on doing more than keeping a show knife in it, or if you care a lot about appearances, maybe think twice and look a little harder. If you just want it to work and don't care how it looks, I'm sure you'd get several years out of it, which is good enough for the price. I don't complain when my $35 boots fall apart after a year, so I won't complain too much that my $15 knife sheath isn't totally perfect in all regards. I think it's good for the price. But it'd be better if the leather was tougher. I wouldn't mind if it got scratched a bit, but this is seriously easy to slice into, without any resistance, seemingly.

Bought this for an old hickory butcher knife I've got on order, but in the meantime it's being used with an 8" CutCo knife. The little bit sticking out is *my* fault for using an 8" knife in a sheath intended for a 7" knife, but I've got to say... This thing is going to be absolutely perfect for my old hickory when it arrives. The two knife blades have the exact same profile, the CutCo is just an inch longer, so as you can see in my second image, the amount of blade sticking out is actually less than 1", meaning the old hickory is going to be a pretty perfect fit!The quality of the sheath is excellent for the money. Having run out of veg tan leather, the cost to make my own (not including the tools required) would be more than I paid for this sheath. Especially considering I purchased it last night (Saturday) and received it less than 12 hours later on a Sunday. Sure, I'd have leftover leather to make plenty of other stuff too, but I'd still have to spend more up front and wait. Could I do better myself? Sure. Could I do better myself for less money and in less time? No way. Not a chance. The curing time on adhering the layers together alone would take longer.
