So far, I've tried the 10-24 tap and the 10-24 die. For a set as cheap as this, I didn't have high expectations; I certainly wasn't expecting them to cut well in harder metals like steel, or to last a long time. But I expected them to at least work somewhat well in softer metals.I tried using the die to cut threads in brass... and it wasn't cutting at all. Even after I used a lathe to do most of the threading work for me (so that the die would only need to cut a few thousandths of an inch to finish the thread), it still wasn't cutting at all, and ultimately just ended up shearing the end of the rod off. I ended up buying a new die, and the new one cut threads just fine (with and without the preparation on the lathe).Similar story with the tap. I tried tapping threads in brass and aluminum... and while this time I did actually get some threads, it was clear that it wasn't cutting them, but forming them (there were no chips, and a ridge formed around the hole where metal had been pushed away).Even the tap wrenches are terrible: there's no dimple in the back for a tap follower.They say "you get what you pay for," but given that neither the tap nor the die were able to cut threads at all, even in soft metals like brass and aluminum, I don't think I even got that.

Looking closely at a few random taps and dies from the 2 sets, it’s painfully obvious this is more Chinese junk. Sloppy machining on all cutting teeth, not sure how you would ever get a nice clean tapped hole or external threads. Might be OK for someone who needs to use it every once in a while for non-critical parts or repairs, but if you want quality, you’re not going to get it here. Even the foreign made (current) Craftsman sets blow this away. Night and day. Sending it back…I should have known.
