This worked great. It’s packaged in a nice water tight little can that is tough and easy to pack. It was able to quickly grab just a little piece and try it out to see how easy it was to light and how long it would burn. I used a small plasma lighter, and the fire starter lit almost instantly. The piece that I had decided to sample was probably the equivalent of one side of a cotton swab. It burned for about 25 to 30 seconds which was absolutely fine for me. When you grab it with your fingers, there will be a little bit of a waxy oil on your fingers where you pluck out the material, but this wiped right off with a paper towel. I then passed my fingers through the flame quickly and and there was no residual to light up on my fingers. The point is that it comes off very easily with a paper towel, we’re probably just rubbing it on grass. The material burns hot enough that during the 30 seconds that I had it lit, I was able to ignite a few small twigs, and if I had been intending to build a full fire, I would have been able to just keep adding with no issues.I’m happy with the quality and function of this item and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice simple, easy to transport fire starting piece of equipment.

I put this fire wax starter to the test during our recent camping trip and here’s how it went. When we first got to our campsite, we notice that the previous campers left wood in the fire pit. Clearly they had doused the fire, probably the night before. But since this said it works on damp wood, I figured I’d give it a try. I pulled out a bit of the material and set it under the wood and lit it up. It ignited right away. No worries about wind preventing this stuff to light. It did burn for quite a while. They claim 5 minutes and although I didn’t time it, it was about that long. Ultimately the damp logs failed to light. But, in all fairness, this is something made for a survival kit and in that type of situation, someone would start off with some sort of kindling…not partially burnt, then doused logs. So, no biggie. We used a fire starter and went about our evening. The following night, I was determined to use this stuff to start a fire. This time, I put in some dry logs and kindling…and another wad of this wax fire starter material…broken up into 2 spots. Couple clicks from my long lighter and POOF, the material lit right up. Coupled with some kindling, I got the fire going! No lighter fluid (didn’t have any) and no fire starter logs. Just a bit of this fire wax and kindling did the trick.I think for anyone looking to pack light, and folks hiking trails, this is a great product to have in your pack. It doesn’t take much of the material, it’s super lightweight, and it’s self contained in a nice tin. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want this, if they love being outside. This is way better than rubbing 2 sticks together.Seriously, this stuff really works well. I recommend it for any outdoor enthusiast…and even us glamper types.

Meets expectations and I can't ask for more than that. I camp a lot but somehow haven't quite mastered lighting a fire and it always takes me far too long. This nifty little product mad it much easier to get things going. I will always camp with this stuff now.

This product is an OK Firestarter, in the right situations and assuming you prep your pit appropriately. It will ignite very easily. I found it instant with a lighter and only took a few strikes with the mag rod to get it going. The wind proofness is about the same as any Firestarter, almost non-existent. A light breeze will blow it out, so just like with any tender you need to protect it until you get your fire going. It will reignite very easily so it has that going for it.The water proofness is a joke, i misted it with a fine mist spray bottle, very lightly and from about a foot away, and it went out. Wasn't very easy to get re-ignited once it got wet either. After I left it in the sun for a few minutes it lit up fine but you won't be able to exactly start a fire in the rain if that's what you want. The texture is unusual and not pleasant to the touch. It is kind of slimy if I had to describe it. The material is almost like house insulation that had petroleum jelly on it. This makes it hard to seperate into small enough pieces for you to get the 50 uses that the ad claims.all in all, not bad. I would put it on par with other firestarters. It will help you if you take your time and do your prep beforehand.

Great for starting camp fires easy to you and very compact if you want to take it backpacking! Great value and is stored in a durable metal can.

This little tin of fire starter is a fantastic item to have on hand to toss in your backpack or to have at home for emergencies. It would be good to also have a pair of tweezers to go in the same pack since you don’t want to get it on your hands taking pieces out. Considering how much it takes to start a flame, this is going to go a long way. I also put it in the sink with some water and it didn’t seep inside. It does catch flame when there is a breeze and will burn even after getting wet. For $10, I am going to order a couple more to have on hand and to give to my grown kids for their emergency preparedness bags.

This firestarter worked well. It is easy to light and burns long enough to get kindling going even if a bit damp (not so great on wood that is very wet). Once the kindling is going I was able to add larger pieces to get a fill fire going. There was a bit of an unpleasant chemical smell.
