I see a lot of comments about dark displays and needing engineering degrees... Displays don't get much brighter and programming doesn't get much easier. This is a high quality controller, without question.

I have had a Torro controller for a few years and hate it. The screen is not lit so you can't read without a flashlight. Not good. Turns on and waters even when you turn it off. Have to turn water off at the mains. Very convoluted programming process. You should not need to spend so much time just to water. When I find a comparable controller I will smash the Toro.

Works great and is not as difficult to set up and program as some may suggest.

This controller combined with the rain sensor was just what I wanted in a residential sprinkler system. I was (mistakenly) led to believe you could program or reset this system from a smartphone by the local Toro distributor: this is NOT true. Menus are very intuitive and overall easy to understand and use.

Tried to upgrade to WiFi, so I bought all the kit pieces. You need a degree in electrical engineering.

The firmware idea behind this clock is a terrible idea. The clock will stop working at a point to have the firmware required to update.I'm a seasoned irrigation specialist and this is by far one of the worst ideas for a clock. A clock applies electricity to a wire for a period of time then switches to the next. You don't need updates for this.Clocks have done the same job for years.

Works very well. There are only three drawbacks: 1) Display is not lighted, so you may need a flashlight to see it; 2) Installation instructions are not clear and I had to redo a couple of things; 3) The process is not intuitive for using a computer to program a schedule and transfer it to a USB flash drive that connects to the device.

Though I did not purchase this product from Amazon.com, I felt compelled to write a review to help others out. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the controller (after some tedious trial and error) and I have had it in use for a couple months so far. I purchased this controller with the smart connect, remote and weather sensor. There are a couple of things that I think are worth mentioning in order to set your system up efficiently.1) Using the software. The software allows you to program all your stations, run times, cycle times, soak times, water days, start times etc. from a PC and upload it into the controller through a USB drive. Based on your inputs, the controller gives suggestions for all of these fields. My advice is to program the controller with the recommended schedules, then run the schedules and watch them so that you understand how it operates. I found out very quickly that the defaulted cycle times were far to long and caused severe run-off, so by watching it, I was able to manually adjust the cycle time on the controller to avoid run-off. It may take longer to water, but you will be happy to have no run-off. Ex: total run time of 40 minutes, cycle time 10 minutes, soak time 10 minutes. The controller will run the program 4 times to achieve the desired water level.2) Customizable plants and irrigation types. Using the software, you can add custom plants, photos and irrigation types. This is especially helpful because you can end up over watering using the defaults. Also take note that the rate notation of Inches/minute is not correct for all irrigation types. For instance, the TORO PRN show a rate of .55 inches/ minute, when in fact its .55 inches/hour. So if you are adding a product other than TORO, be sure to compare the units of measure. Plants are simple, as they go by root depth and coefficient.3) Setting up the schedule based on ET data. There seems to be a glitch in the software that only looks up a max ET rate and not the seasonal adjustment. So to overcome that, you would have to enter in a monthly adjustment manually. You can search the web and find guidelines from many of the universities like UC Davis, California. I imagine this function will get fixed in time.
