I've been looking for something like this for the 25 years that I've had this guitar!Aftermarket parts for this model are very few and far between. The Stratocaster Elite was manufactured by CBS-era Fender for only a couple of years, therefore not many were made compared to the mainstream models. Their non-standard parts (bridge, pickups, switches, tremolo system, wiring, pickguard, etc) were not interchangeable with most available replacement parts.By far, the weakest part of this instrument is the tremolo/bridge system.Seemingly designed more for looks than function, this top mounted hardware does not pass the strings through the body as others of it's type do. Thereby losing some vibration and sustain. In addition, the material the original Fender saddles are made from seems like some chromed cheap pot metal or something. They aren't even solid. Although small, there are voids in the bottom of them. Not solid, but the chrome is pretty. They are about as good as the light plastic that I originally thought they were. The Graph Tech String Saver Saddles for Stratocaster Elite are what should have been on the instrument in the first place. Too bad they weren't available years ago. I still wouldn't know about them if I hadn't found them in an auction search. Now mine feels more like other Strats I've played, rather than one that feels like it came off the assembly line unfinished. It's like a different guitar now. I've only had them on and adjusted for a short time, but the difference is remarkable. It's one of the few things you can do to an Elite, and it's the best! Tuning and setup are a lot less hassle since the sustain is there with more clarity. The tones are more at pitch and stay there longer. Much more harmonics too.My next step will be to install a Graph Tech nut to match the saddles. Then, perhaps,I won't be able to call the tremolo a "great de-tuner" any longer. After all this time I may finally be able to use it. I gave up on it early on. It does have the nicest handle of all I've seen, though.I would have rated this a 5, but for the inconveniences experienced surrounding it. The product itself deserves a 5.I got these through an online BIN auction. The retail package came promptly containing the saddles and an Allen wrench. ONE 3/32" Allen wrench, for the intonation screws. NONE for the height adjustment screws. You can't finish the setup without height adjustment, just as with the Fender saddles.I don't understand the industry fascination with Allen screws and wrenches. Thumbscrews would seem to be more practical. Especially 'on the fly'. Plenty of Floyd Rose units have them. The Graph Tech website says it takes a 1/16th Allen wrench to set the screws for height. After hunting through a couple tool departments in stores I bought some. When I got them home, THEY DIDN'T FIT! Too big. Very Annoying, very disappointing. Wasted trip.Another trip, this time to Home Depot and there is a $5 set of these wrenches that has yet a smaller Allen wrench in it than the other stores' sets had. This time the smallest isn't the 1/16th, it's the ".050". Guess what!? That's the one that fits! THE GRAPH TECH WEBSITE HAS INCORRECT INFORMATION ON THIS. Remember it's the ".050", NOT the "1/16th"!That wrench size (1/16TH) was supposed to be the $2+ 'replacement' (if it shows up in your factory stapled package purchase to be replaced) that they offer. The listed wrench size apparently was switched with another model. The website only offers communication to those who purchase directly from them. Try as they might, not every answer is necessarily in an F.A.Q.The auction seller I bought these from doesn't answer their emails, so this whole wrench thing was really a problem I HAD TO FIX MYSELF.THEY CAN'T EVEN BE MADE AWARE OF THEIR MISTAKE. Businesses should communicate with ALL their customers.Oh, and their "Iron Clad Guarantee" only applies to direct customers as well. At least from what their website says. Deal with your seller, not them, is their policy. Are they who you make guarantee claims to?My seller says: "We are authorized retailers for Graphtech products, so all gear comes complete with the original factory warranty." Hmmmmm......INSTALLATION TIP: turn the intonation screws in and out once before attaching them to the bridge. The threads may be tight like mine were, and not thread in easily in the confines of the bridge and guitar top. You don't want that right angle hook on the Allen wrench to gouge your paint up while you assemble, DO YOU?!Or cross thread one like I almost did, and caused me to turn the screws in and out once,.Turning the saddle on it's side seemed to make it easier to thread while installing it with the intonation screw and spring. If you don't receive a wrench try to level the height screws before tightening your strings. Once you have a wrench it can all be finished as needed. Conclusion: Have a Stratocaster Elite? - buy these. BS aside, you'll be glad you did. Then you can bitch in a review about it to get even.....:Once they're on and adjusted you'll have a 'new'(to you), more enjoyable guitar. You will probably play it more, and play more creatively too. Time to retrofit that axe and get the current technology.I can't wait to see how much improvement a matching nut makes!
